Så varför sa Dumbledore inte någon av orderna om Horcruxes? Trodde han att det skulle vara för farligt? Lät han inte lita på dem?

Han ville inte att den mörka lorden skulle veta att han visste, och säkra dem.

Anledningen till att Dumbledore håller sin kunskap om Horcruxes hemlighet, och förmodligen detta är samma anledning som han inte berättade för Orden, beror på att han inte ville ha något ord om att han visste så många av den mörka Lordens hemligheter. Det är troligt att den mörka herren skulle vara säker på att hans Horcruxes skulle vara säkra, och han skulle inte bestämma sig för att säkra dem bättre eller ändra sina platser.

Dumbledore considered him for a moment, then said, ‘Yes, I think Mr Weasley and Miss Granger have proved themselves trustworthy. But, Harry, I am going to ask you to ask them not to repeat any of this to anybody else. It would not be a good idea if word got around how much I know, or suspect, about Lord Voldemort’s secrets.”

Det var ett bra resonemang - så snart den mörka herren upptäckte att Hufflepuffs kopp blev stulen bestämde han sig för att kontrollera dem alla och fördubbla skyddet runt dem.

Genom att inte berätta för någon, inklusive ordern, säkerställde Dumbledore att den mörka herren förblev trygg i sitt försvar så länge som möjligt - när han började kontrollera dem hade den mörka herren bara två kvar, diademen och Nagini . Diademen förstördes medan han fortfarande var på gång med att kontrollera dem, så han hade inte tid att flytta den heller. Dumbledore prioriterade att hålla den mörka lorden från att få reda på att han visste. Trots att Orden skulle vara teoretiskt trovärdig, förra året dödade Potters på grund av en spion i sina led.

Det verkar som om Dumbledore var rädd för Voldemort att han visste om Horcruxes. Som vi finner i en konversation i Halvblodsprins (min betoning):

He turned to go, then another question occurred to him, and he turned back again. “Sir, am I allowed to tell Ron and Hermione everything you’ve told me?”

Dumbledore considered him for a moment, then said, “Yes, I think Mr. Weasley and Miss Granger have proved themselves trustworthy. But Harry, I am going to ask you to ask them not to repeat any of this to anybody else. It would not be a good idea if word got around how much I know, or suspect, about Lord Voldemort’s secrets.”

“No, sir, I’ll make sure it’s just Ron and Hermione. Good night.”

Vidare, i slutet av Deathly Hallow Harry insåg att Dumbledore inte heller ville slösa någon annans liv. Harry var tvungen att dö, så Dumbledore bestämde sig för att använda honom som Horcrux-jägaren:

Dumbledore’s betrayal was almost nothing. Of course there had been a bigger plan; Harry had simply been too foolish to see it, he realized that now. He had never questioned his own assumption that Dumbledore wanted him alive. Now he saw that his life span had always been determined by how long it took to eliminate all the Horcruxes. Dumbledore had passed the job of destroying them to him, and obediently he had continued to chip away at the bonds tying not only Voldemort, but himself, to life! How neat, how elegant, not to waste any more lives, but to give the dangerous task to the boy who had already been marked for slaughter, and whose death would not be a calamity, but another blow against Voldemort.
