Graves / Grindelwald ville hitta en Obscurial riktigt dålig eftersom Grindelwald tror att endast en riktigt kraftfull Obscurial kan döda Dumbledore.

Jag säger starkt eftersom Obscurials knappt lever över 10 års ålder. Men Credence når hans 20-tal som gör honom till en extremt kraftfull obscurial, som är kapabel till extrem förstörelse.

I "Grindelwalds brott" avslöjas att Grindelwald anser att Credence är den som kan besegra Dumbledore.

KRALL Why is he so important?

GRINDELWALD walks to face KRALL.

GRINDELWALD Who represents the greatest threat to our cause?

KRALL Albus Dumbledore.

GRINDELWALD If I asked you now to go to the school where he is hiding and kill him for me, would you do it for me, Krall? (smiles) Credence is the only entity alive... who can kill him.

Så när Grindelwald lär sig om "en kraftfull obscurial i New York", går han dit för att hitta Obscurial. Omedvetet är det Obscurial, Grindelwald enlists hjälp av Credence för att finna "Obscurial". När han väl vet att Credence är Obscurial, försöker han få sin förtroende, vilket slutar illa för Grindelwald i del 1 (alla tror att Credence är död vid del 1 slutet). Grindelwald försöker sedan få Credence i hans led i Paris, så att han kan defekta Dumbledore med Credence.

Ytterligare fakta:

Varför Grindelwald inte kan gå emot Dumbledore själv och behöver Credence / Obscurial? Eftersom Grindelwald och Dumbledore gjorde en blodpakt för att inte slåss mot varandra. Så de kan inte slåss om varandra, även om de ville. Så Grindelwald ville uppnå detta med hjälp av en extremt kraftfull Obscurial.

Förmodligen på grund av Ariana Dumbledore.

I Harry Potter och Döds Hallows , lär vi oss om Ariana Dumbledore, Albus syster.
Medan termen "Obscurus" eller "Obscurial" aldrig nämns i den ursprungliga serien, beskriver beskrivningen av en Obscurial den beskrivning som ges av Ariana.

JACOB: Can someone please tell me what this Obscurial - Obscurus - thing is? Please?

TINA: There hasn't been one in centuries.

NEWT: I met one in Sudan three months ago. There used to be more of them, but they still exist. Before wizards went underground, when we were still being hunted by Muggles, young wizards and witches sometimes tried to suppress their magic to avoid persecution. Instead of learning to harness or to control their powers, they developed what was called an Obscurus. It's an unstable, uncontrollable Dark force that bursts out an attacks... and then vanishes.

Ariana slutade då att dö under en kamp mellan Albus, Aberforth och Gellert Grindelwald ... som var Albus närmsta vän länge och var ofta i sitt hus.

Gellert var bekant med Ariana och var där när hon dog. Detta gav sannolikt honom en skrynkelse av hur kraftfullt och Obscurus var och kanske gav honom också en önskan att förhindra fler av dessa fall. trots allt var han helt pro-wizard, och att ha en trollkarl som dör tidigt på grund av att förtrycka magi - som orsakas av Muggles - skulle ha varit något som Grindelwald skulle vara helt emot. Och så ser vi att Graves - aka Grindelwald i förklädnad - ville rädda Obscurials - som kyskhet, Credence syster, som han ursprungligen trodde var Obscurial och Credence själv, när han en gång var uppenbarad för att vara Obscurus.
