Som det har noterats i många fall sökte Sauron En ring och det har varit subtilt föreslog att < em> ring själv försökte komma tillbaka till Sauron. Det var därför det övergav Gollum efter alla dessa århundraden.
Det vet också att Sauron investerade stora mängder av sin kraft i ringen.
Så varför kunde han inte upptäcka det om ingen hade på sig det?

Barad-dur var ganska långt bort *, för att inte tala om bakom en bergskedja. Frodo hade viss grad av övernaturlig syn på Hill of Seeing. Det är en "magisk" känsla att för att se allt måste Frodo i viss mån göra sig synlig, särskilt för Palantir-wielders som Sauron.

Then his wrath blazed in consuming flame, but his fear rose like a vast black smoke to choke him. For he knew his deadly peril and the thread upon which his doom now hung.
Frodo ställde inte bara Ringet på, han hävdade det som sin egen med full kunskap om Ringens makt och vad det var och om konsekvenserna i "hjärtat av hans rike" , där ringen själv var smidd. Detta är tydligt en magiskt signifikant händelse på en magiskt betydande plats.
Det finns ingen anledning att tro det på annat håll och under normala omständigheter att Sauron kunde upptäcka människor som bär ringen. Sam är verkligen ingen expert, men han tror att han bara är i fara som bär ringen inuti Mordor .
‘And anyway all these notions are only a trick,’ he said to himself. ‘He'd spot me and cow me, before I could so much as shout out. He'd spot me, pretty quick, if I put the Ring on now, in Mordor.

He did not feel invisible at all, but horribly and uniquely visible; and he knew that somewhere an Eye was searching for him.
'Only thrice have you set the Ring upon your finger since you knew what you possessed. Do no try! It would destroy you. Did not Gandalf tell you the rings give power according to the measure of their possessor? Before you could use that power you would need to become far stronger, and train your will to the domination of others.'
Observera dock att i slutet var Frodo ganska möjligt med hjälp av Ringets kraft för att dominera andras vilja - nämligen Gollum.
Sauron satte sig in i Ring - sant. Men därmed utmärkte han den kraften. Det var bunden med honom, men inte en del av honom som en lem som han visste var den var vid alltid. Det var priset Sauron betalade för att skapa Ring.
