Från den utbytet kan vi se det eftersom Harry bad om att komma med, gick Dumbledore med på att ta med honom till The Cave. Harry var inte närvarande när Dumbledore gick ut för att hitta Marvolos Ring, och därför hade han inte möjlighet att fråga på förhand.

I samma kapitel där Dumbledore ger sitt samtycke, har Harry visat Dumbledore Slughorns verkliga minne, så att Dumbledore kan bekräfta antalet Horcruxes Voldemort har. Allt tack till Harry. Han hade tjänat den extra rätten att jaga Horcruxes med Dumbledore.

Dumbledore kan ha förutsett att Harry har nytta

Dumebledore lärde Tom Riddle. Han "kände till sin stil" och förmodligen hans brutalitet också. Han visste att Voldemort skulle ha lagt fällor för att förhindra en enda person som agerar ensam från att nå Horcrux.

“This is merely the antechamber, the entrance hall,” said Dumbledore after a moment or two. “We need to penetrate the inner place. Now it is Lord Voldemort’s obstacles that stand in our way, rather than those nature made.”

“Magic always leaves traces,” said Dumbledore, as the boat hit the bank with a gentle bump, “sometimes very distinctive traces. I taught Tom Riddle. I know his style.”

Så hade han gjort en intelligent gissning om de metoder som Voldemort skulle ha använt för att hindra människor från att nå sin Horcrux. I det här fallet skulle det vara:

• Fältet "Båt":

  Voldemort underskattade ungdomar - han skulle inte ha bry sig om vikten, utan snarare om mängden magisk kraft som korsade sin sjö . Harry märker inte skulle ha utlöst båtfallen alls.

• Fältet "Potion":

  Was this why he had been invited along — so that he could force-feed Dumbledore a potion that might cause him unendurable pain? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Dumbledore ville ge Harry mer "erfarenhet" när det gäller att hantera Horcruxes

Hittills hade Harry bara erfarenhet av en annan Horcrux: Dagboken. Genom att hämta (och eventuellt förstöra) en annan skulle Harry känna sig mer säker på att han skulle kunna hitta Voldemorts andra Horcruxes. Vi ser att Harry är exhilarated från att hämta locket Horcrux:

Ja, det är sant att Dumbledore tog Harry med honom för att han frågade. Men han tog honom till grottan eftersom han var nästan säker på att det fanns en Horcrux i den grottan:

För att svara på din andra fråga: Jag tror inte att han förväntade sig att behöva Harry. Vidare i nästa kapitel säger han något, som får mig att tro att han inte förväntade sig att verkligen behöva Harry:
