Lestranges och Barty Crouch Junior spårade Frank Longbottom i tron att han visste Voldemorts "nuvarande vistelse".
"We have heard the evidence against you. The four of you stand accused of capturing an Auror - Frank Longbottom - and subjecting him to the Cruciatus Curse, believing him to have knowledge of the present whereabouts of your exiled master, He Who Must Not Be Named -"
"Father, I didn't!" shrieked the boy in chains below. "I didn't, I swear it, Father, don't send me back to the Dementors -"
"You are further accused," bellowed Mr Crouch, "of using the Cruciatus Curse on Frank Longbottom's wife, when he would not give you information. You planned to restore He Who Must Not Be Named to power, and to resume the lives of violence you presumably led when he was strong."

Varför skulle Frank Longbottom förväntas veta Lord Voldemorts nuvarande vistelseort? Förmodligen, om han hade vetat, hade han spårat Voldemort ner sig själv med en grupp Aurors. Det verkar bisarrt att Longbottom ska utpekas som den här stora källan till potentiell intel. Varför tog Longbottom ut över alla andra? Hade det något att göra med profetian?
Jag antar att den övergripande frågan är: hade Frank Longbottom faktiskt någon information som var användbar för dem (för om han gjorde det skulle förklara varför de gick efter honom)? Förlorade han sin sanity som en hjälte och förnekade dem en viktig information som verkligen skulle hjälpa dem? Eller gick han ner på grund av att han verkligen inte kunde berätta för dem vad de försökte ta reda på?
När Voldemort försvann strax efter attacken på Potters var dödsätarna totalt oroliga. Några trodde att Voldemort verkligen var borta och helt övergav resten. Några fångades och för att rädda sig gav upp några av de andra dödsätarna. Andra gick fortfarande fram och påstod sig vara under Imperius Curse och fortsatte med sina liv. Några av dödsätarna som Bellatrix och Barty Crouch Jr. var hans mest lojala (och lite försvunna) anhängare. Voldemort var för dem som Gud och de dyrkade grunden på vilken han gick och sökte någon metod för att spåra honom.
Så jag tror inte att Longbottoms riktade sig eftersom de hade kunskap om Voldemorts vistelseort. De få anledningarna att de kunde ha valt Longbottoms kan vara:

The odd thing, Harry, he said softly, is that it may not have meant you at all. Sybillʹs prophecy could have applied to two wizard boys, both born at the end of July that year, both of whom had parents in the Order of the Phoenix, both sets of parents having narrowly escaped Voldemort three times. One, of course, was you. The other was Neville Longbottom.

Jag tror inte att Bellatrix och de andra visste någonting om Longbottomsna som var relaterade till profetian eller till och med vad innehållet i profetian var. Däremot verkar det troligt att Death Eaters tog chansen och hoppas att kanske Longbottomsna kanske vet något om den mörka Herrens vistelseort, och även om de inte gjorde det, skulle Death Eaters få tortera några av deras starkare motståndare. Det verkar som om deras tortyr av Longbottoms var helt enkelt i hopp om att de kanske hade information och sannolikt något för att de var arg på Dark Lords nederlag och att tortera Aurors var åtminstone något de kunde försöka i sitt försök att hitta honom
Även om Longbottoms son Neville var en av två möjliga människor som profetianen sade skulle ha makt att besegra den mörka lorden, J.K. Rowling bekräftade på hennes hemsida att Lestranges riktar sig mot Nevillas föräldrar, och visste inte om profetian.
