Varför kallade han sig "The Mule?"

I de avslutande få meningarna i Stiftelse och imperium säger Mule att:

I call myself the Mule - but not because of my strength, obviously -

De slutar inte meningen. Tidigare i boken visade några stiftelsen teorier att det var på grund av hans jobbiga inställning till galaktisk erövring (vilket verkar konstigt i sig), men det beklagar detta effektivt. Om det inte var på grund av hans styrka, varför heter han sig så? Jag antar att det är underförstått men jag har misslyckats med att göra några slutsatser.

Mules namn är självvalgt och hänvisar till hans sterilitet

"Secondly, we did not know of your physical shortcomings, particularly the one that seemed so important to you, that you adopted the name of the Mule. We didn't foresee that you were not merely a mutant, but a sterile mutant and the added psychic distortion due to your inferiority complex passed us by. We allowed only for a megalomania – not for an intensely psychopathic paranoia as well.
