Earth: Green Planet eller Blue Planet?

Med introduktionen av satellitfotografering, och insikten att 71% av jordens yta är vatten. Människor har tagit för att kalla planet "Blue Planet."

Titta på bilden men kan också se att den också framträdande har grön. Föreslå det är en planet med livet.

1908 - Jorden, en blå, lysande Speck

William Hope Hodgson s 1908-roman Huset på Borderland finns på Project gutenberg :

I drew nigher to our system, and now I could see the shine of Jupiter. Later, I distinguished the cold, blue gleam of the earthlight . . . I had a moment of bewilderment. All about the sun there seemed to be bright, objects, moving in rapid orbits. Inward, nigh to the savage glory of the sun, there circled two darting points of light, and, further off, there flew a blue, shining speck, that I knew to be the earth. It circled the sun in a space that seemed to be no more than an earth-minute.

1925 - Earth, den gröna stjärnan

Noveletten "När den gröna stjärnan avtog" av Nictzin Dyalhis (riktigt namn!) publicerades först i Otroliga Tales , april 1925 . Denna berättelse är anmärkningsvärd för första kända omnämnandet av ett fiktivt vapen som kallas "blaster" eller "blastor" som Dyalhis stavade det. Titeln "Green Star" är planeten Earth (eller "Aerth") från Venus (eller "Venhez"):

That something was radically wrong with our neighbor, everybody already knew, for many years before the green light of Aerth had become perceptibly dimmer. Little attention, however, had been paid at first, for, by interplanetary law, each planet's dwellers remained at home, unless their presence was requested elsewhere. And no call had come to us nor to any other world from Aerth; so we had put it down to some purely natural cause with which, doubtless, the Aerthons were perfectly capable of coping without outside help or interference.

But year by year the green light waned in the night skies until finally it vanished utterly.

1939 - Earth, The Green Speck (föreslog i en kommentar av @Ubik)

Kort historia "Marooned off Vesta" av Isaac Asimov publicerades först i Fantastiska berättelser , mars 1939 . Tyvärr har jag inte en kopia av det här problemet. Följande citat är från en återskrivning av den berättelsen i The Best of Amazing ( Joseph Ross , red.), Doubleday, 1967:

He gazed about him. For the first time since the crash he saw the stars, instead of the vision of bloated Vesta which their porthole afforded. 1942 - jorden, den blå världen

Therefore, I, Shapplo with the Long Proboscis, interpreter to the First Expedition, have been commissioned by the crew of the Earth Rocket to tell the full and unexpurgated story of our adventures on Earth, and the reasons for our contention that the planet must forever remain closed to Martian colonization.

Om du går tillräckligt långt tillbaka till SF hittar du andra färger som också spekuleras på jorden som sett från rymden. Kanske var himlen blå eftersom andra frekvenser reflekterades snarare än spridda, så det skulle se ut rött ur rymden; kanske skulle det vara gult från reflekterat solljus ...

Halvleken av vetenskap är när universum överraskar oss. De flesta genombrott är inte initialt hälsade med "Eureka!", Men med "Jo, det var inte det jag förväntade mig ..."
