Genom Illuvatars vilja är mänskligheten känd som Människan, inte människor. Som vår hemliga historia är det dock i vårt förflutna. Som sådan är det ordet man mänskligt känt för Människan under historiens tid skriven av Tolkien, och vilka instanser av dess användning finns det om någon?
Du måste komma ihåg än i universum, dessa texter var inte ursprungligen skrivna på engelska; de skrevs i Westron, några ( The Silmarillion och tillhörande verk) ursprungligen i Elvish (förmodligen Quenya), och översattes till engelska av Tolkien. Så existerade ordet "mänskligt" inte nödvändigtvis; "mänskligt" härrör från latin och gammal franska , varav ingen existerade under perioder där legendariet är inställt.
