Jag försöker hitta namnet på en bok jag läste för länge sedan. Grundritningen är att vetenskap / teknik har varit olaglig och någon kille lyssnar illegalt på himlen. Han mottar en signal från rymden och dödas efter att han vidarebefordrat den till en kollega. Detta sparkar en generationshistoria om dekryptering av meddelandet, återuppbyggnad av våra vetenskaps- och teknologiprogram och byggandet av ett rymdskepp för att möta de kommande utomjordingarna.
Några prickar jag minns:
the alien ship which they meet towards the end had one person on it, a human, and I think that ship used nuclear pulse propulsion. The ship the people of Earth made traveled a lot faster (I think using a bussard ramjet?). The Earthlings travel on to the alien home world which it turns out is full of humans as well.
