Kan eleverna falla ut av Hogwarts?
Ja. Åtminstone fram till HP och Dödshallarna är Voldemorts regimen obligatorisk när man går till Hogwarts. Som Lupin berättar:
“Attendance is now compulsory for every young witch and wizard,” he replied. “That was announced yesterday. It’s a change, because it was never obligatory before. Of course, nearly every witch and wizard in Britain has been educated at Hogwarts, but their parents had the right to teach them at home or send them abroad if they preferred.”

Det är självklart att beslutet sannolikt kommer att göras av föräldrar snarare än studenten. Seamus Finnigan, on the other hand, refused point-blank to accompany his mother home; they had a shouting match in the Entrance Hall which was resolved when she agreed that he could remain behind for the funeral.

Everyone who shows magical ability before their eleventh birthday will automatically gain a place at Hogwarts; there is no question of not being ‘magical enough’; you are either magical or you are not. There is no obligation to take up the place, however; a family might not want their child to attend Hogwarts.
Observera att Muggle föräldrar förmodligen inte kan dra tillbaka sina barn från Hogwarts, men det är meningslöst: de skulle inte kunna ge sina barns magiska träning hemma, och magisk träning av något slag, oavsett om det är hos Hogwarts, är nödvändigt för en ung trollkarl. Vilket leder mig till ...
Kan eleverna falla ur studera ?
Nej. Eller åtminstone antar jag inte. I Storbritannien är det obligatoriskt för barn att ha en utbildning, men inte för dem att delta i en skola. Den operativa frasen, som hade funnits i brittisk lag alltifrån utbildningslagen från 1944, är " antingen genom regelbunden närvaro i skolan eller på annat sätt ". Ordalydelsen i denna lag inspirerade organisationen Utbildning Annars , en välgörenhet dedikerad till att hjälpa familjer vars barn utbildas "annars". Såsom ses i den nuvarande utbildningslagen från 1996 :
The parent of every child of compulsory school age shall cause him to receive efficient full-time education suitable—
(a) to his age, ability and aptitude, and
(b) to any special educational needs he may have,
either by regular attendance at school or otherwise.
Även om det här är en Muggle-lag, är det rimligt att anta att en liknande regel gäller i den brittiska trollkarlen. Speciellt eftersom en magisk utbildning är mer viktig än en Muggle-utbildning - om du inte lär dig hur du använder din magi ordentligt, kan du hamna som Ariana, antingen döende eller döda någon av misstag.
