Vad upplevde Soran i Nexus?

StarTrek.coms officiella sida för Soran beskriver honom som att använda Nexus " som en escapistportal för att återvända hans döda familj till det virtuella livet med honom "

I filmen 'Star Trek: Generations' Guinan beskrivs livet inom nexus som

"like being inside joy. As if joy was something tangible ...and you could wrap yourself in it like a blanket".

Senare, under sitt första möte med Soran, försökte Picard begränsa sig med honom genom att lyfta fram hans handlingers amoralitet.

"PICARD: What you're about to do Soran, is no different from when the Borg destroyed your world. They killed millions too, including your wife and children.

SORAN: Nice try. You know, there was a time when I wouldn't hurt a fly. Then the Borg came. And they showed me that if there is one constant in this whole universe it's death.

Afterwards I began to realise it didn't really matter. We're all going to die sometime. It's just a question of how and when. You will too, Captain. Aren't you beginning to feel time gaining on you?

It's like a predator. It's stalking you. Oh, you can try and outrun it with doctors, medicines, new technologies, but in the end time is going to hunt you down and make the kill.

PICARD: It's our mortality that defines us, Soran. It's part of the truth of our existence.

SORAN: What if I told you I've found a new truth.

PICARD: The Nexus?

SORAN: Time has no meaning there. The predator has no teeth."

Soran försöker helt klart att komma in i Nexus för att undvika hans egen mortalitet och återvända till en tid (även om den är virtuell) när hans familj fortfarande levde.

Utöver det skapar nexus en artificiell känsla av "glädje" som är så attraktiv att Guinan tror att någon skulle bli frestad att stanna, oavsett deras mentala styrka.

Om Sorans upplevelse är något som Picard och Kirk är då kan han förvänta sig att bli visad en ojämn mash scenarier som är avsedda att representera hans olika längtar och ånger gjorde hela.

Filmen nämner att Soran har förlorat sin familj (så långt jag kommer ihåg under en Borg-attack - yup, verkar korrigera ). Jag antar att han hoppades att återförenas med dem (faktiskt den länkade artikeln säger det speciellt, men jag är ingen expert på Star Trek Canon-nivåer).
