I Gandalfs strid med djuret var de faktiskt nedsänkt i vatten. Det dödade inte Balrog, eller ens försvagade honom verkligen. Det släckte sin flamma och reducerade honom till en lerig ormformig varelse.

Definitivt inte. Balrogs är Maiar, som existerade utanför Arda innan de kom till Arda-viken.
Would water immersion be a method of killing a Balrog?
Jag är inte medveten om ett kanoniskt svar, men med tanke på hur svårt det var att döda en och hur mycket skada de gjorde i tidigare åldrar skulle man tro att om en Balrog var Arda motsvarar den onda häxan i väst , Älvor skulle ha hällt vatten på dem för länge sedan.
