Mordor har mer än bara ett berg och ett torn. Som du kan se från Tolkiens annoterade karta (botten), gör Doomberg och Saurons torn bara ett litet hörn av Mordor, nämligen Plateau of Gorgoroth . Förutom platån (ibland kallade "slätterna") består Mordor också av Nurn, som är det bördiga landet som omger Nürnens hav som matade Saurons arméer under Ringenes Herre och åren tidigare. Det finns också två stora bergskedjor, Asharnas berg gränsar till norra Mordor och Skuggarna som definierar Mordors västra och södra gränser. Dessa två områden sammanfaller i nordväst för att bilda Udúns dal, en stor strategisk dal som är viktig i böckerna och filmerna, som ligger utanför den svarta porten, som är den främsta entrén till Mordor och framför Isenmouthe, den inre porten och en annan fästning som skyddar Mordor. Olika vägar och stigar, större och mindre, liksom grottor löper över hela områden och landar. Nedan är en lista över de saker som ligger inom Mordor.

Minas Morgul

Upon the further side, some way within the valley's arms high on a rocky seat upon the black knees of the Ephel Dúath, stood the walls and tower of Minas Morgul. All was dark about it, earth and sky, but it was lit with light. Not the imprisoned moonlight welling through the marble walls of Minas Ithil long ago, Tower of the Moon, fair and radiant in the hollow of the hills. Paler indeed than the moon ailing in some slow eclipse was the light of it now, wavering and blowing like a noisome exhalation of decay, a corpse-light, a light that illuminated nothing.

Morannon

Nurnes hav

It is described as "the bitter inland sea of Núrnen" in TTT The Black Gate is Closed. It is fed by 4 rivers which are unnamed, two from the Ephel Dúath and two from the Ered Lithui (Ash Mountains). As it has no outlet to the sea, it loses water only by evaporation, thereby concentrating the dissolved minerals. This should result in a body of water similar to the Dead Sea.

Mordor är inte en komplett öken. Den södra delen har fält som producerar mat för Saurons arméer (djärvt tillagd):

Saurons öga är inte en struktur, det är en metafor för Saurons vaksamhet och insamling av information med naturliga och magiska metoder.

Mount Doom är inte en struktur, det är en geologisk funktion.

Huvudstrukturen i nordvästra Mordor är det mörka tornet, Barad-Dur, en mäktig fästning utan tvekan en stor befolkning som bor i den.

Södra Mordor var Nurn, som innehöll Nurneshavet, utfodrad av flera floder. Det var stora gårdar i Nurn arbetade av Saurons slavar för att mata sina arméer. Det var ingen tvivel att det fanns många slavarackar, lador och andra gårdar i Nurn.

Lithladens torra slätt var öster om Gorgoroth och norr om Nurn.

Nurn was the name given to the southern regions of Mordor, more fertile than Gorgoroth in the north, in which the great inland Sea of Núrnen lay.1 The people who inhabited Nurn were Men and there may have been prisoners of war there as well. These people were enslaved by Sauron, working the soil around the sea of Nurn to feed Sauron's armies.

After the War of the Ring, King Elessar liberated the peoples of Nurn and gave them the land as their own. The southern region of Nurn probably escaped the destruction caused in northern Mordor by the eruption of Mount Doom.2

Varje stor bebodd region som Mordor är skyldig att ha många hundratusentals byggnader och andra strukturer. Även öknar kommer att ha några strukturer byggda av människan.

I LOTR ser Frodo och Sam Mordor strukturer som:

1) Minas morgul, som är tekniskt utanför Mordor i Ithilen,

2) Morannon Gate of Mordor,

3) Isenmouthe väggen och porten,

4) Tower of Cirith Ungol,

5) Och i det avstånd det mörka tornet, Barad-Dur.

Och det finns nämnandet om Durthangs fästning som jag inte tror att Frodo eller Sam någonsin glimtar.

Således finns det flera strukturer i den ödsliga och mestadels obebodda nordvästra Mordor, och det borde finnas många fler i den befolkade regionen Nurn.
