Om det är möjligt att Lily Luna Potter sorteras i Hufflepuff beror på både hennes personlighet och om hon vill bli en Hufflepuff. Om hon är lojal och snäll, så skulle det åtminstone vara möjligt för henne att vara i Hufflepuff, även om hon inte faktiskt hamnar där, eftersom sorteringshatten ibland anser mer än ett hus för en student innan man bestämmer sig för en, speciellt om studenten inte passar bara ett hus perfekt (som Draco och Tom Riddle gjorde).
Harry kunde ha varit i Slytherin, och kanske också en av de andra husen. Trots att han hamnade i Gryffindor var det definitivt möjligt som han kanske inte hade.

Sorteringshatten fann Harry ett svårt fall, och det var troligen Harrys personliga preferens som påverkade hans slutliga beslut om Harrys placering. Att säga "Inte heller ett dåligt sinne" innebär att sorteringshattet kanske har övervägt Ravenclaw också, i åtminstone ett ögonblick.

Båda dessa verkar som saker som en snäll och lojal Hufflepuff lätt och plausibelt kan säga, så det finns verkligen ingen anledning att utesluta möjligheten att hon skulle betraktas för Hufflepuff.

Därför var det säkert möjligt för Hermione, Neville, McGonagall och Pettigrew att vara i olika hus än de faktiskt placerades i. >The Sorting Hat spent nearly four minutes trying to decide whether it should place Hermione in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. In Neville’s case, the Hat was determined to place him in Gryffindor: Neville, intimidated by that house’s reputation for bravery, requested a placing in Hufflepuff. Their silent wrangling resulted in triumph for the Hat.
The only true Hatstalls known personally to Harry Potter were Minerva McGonagall and Peter Pettigrew. The former caused the hat to agonise for five and a half minutes as to whether Minerva ought to go to Ravenclaw or Gryffindor; the latter was placed in Gryffindor after a long deliberation between that house and Slytherin.

‘Oh, no, not necessarily,’ said Hermione. ‘Parvati Patil’s twin’s in Ravenclaw, and they’re identical, you’d think they’d be together, wouldn’t you?”
