I episod 1 Obi-Wan Kenobi sägs att:
You and the Naboo form a symbiotic circle, what happens to one of you will affect the other, you must understand this...
Atten"symbios" betyder:
the living together of two dissimilar organisms, as in mutualism, commensalism, amensalism, or parasitism.
Det är värt att notera att språket som används i novellerna kan vara lite annorlunda:
“You and the Naboo are connected,” Obi-Wan insisted, his youthful face intent, not ready to concede the matter. “What happens to one will affect the other. You must understand this.”
Detta föreslår att begreppet "symbios" inte är tänkt att vara strikt bokstavligt men i en mer metaforisk mening.
Det verkar faktiskt som Obi-Wans huvudpunkt är att Naboo är allt som står mellan droid armén och Gungans:
“After that army takes control of the Naboo, they will come here and take control of you,” Obi-Wan said quietly.
Det är möjligt att Obi-Wan hänvisar till något mer konkret, till exempel handel mellan Naboo och Gungans , som nämnts here (även om den informationen kan vara icke-kanon). Såvitt kanoninformation, å ena sidan har Gungans ledare kommunicerat ganska sällan med Naboo:

Å andra sidan, som ett relativt icke-industriellt samhälle, verkar det troligt att Gungans måste handla för mycket av den teknik de använder.

While most spacefarers would dismiss Gungans as primitives, they have developed an advanced, albeit unique, technology. They grow the basic structures of buildings, vehicles and technology and adorn them with artistic flourishes and organic lines. This gives Gungan technology a very fluid, non-rectilinear look.
Det är också möjligt att de köper sina bubbelgeneratorer och så vidare direkt från offworlders, istället för att handla med Naboo.
Om det fortfarande finns handel mellan Naboo och Gungans (förmodligen av personer som är mindre isolerade än Boss Nass), kan detta vara en annan motivering för Obi-Wans påstående om symbios.
