I Phoenix-ordningen blir Harry attackerad av Dementors, och använder en Patronus charm för att försvara både sig själv och Dudley. Han blir utvisad från Hogwarts och kallas till en rättegång, där ett brott mot stadgan och dekretet listas bland anklagelserna:

Både Sirius och Hermione gör vaga anmärkningar till det faktum att stadgan tillåter dig att utföra magi för att skydda ditt eget liv. Sirius säger det direkt:

“We are familiar with Clause Seven, thank you very much!” snarled Fudge.
“Of course you are,” said Dumbledore courteously. “Then we are in agreement that Harry’s use of the Patronus Charm in these circumstances falls precisely into the category of exceptional circumstances the clause describes?”
“If there were Dementors, which I doubt.”
Det är rimligt att anta att detta skydd sträcker sig till guider som är äldre, särskilt eftersom de är mer kapabla att försvara sig och / eller Muggles. Det finns ingen anledning att inte, och det är ett förnuftigt tillägg till någon lag.
Hur Dumbledore uttrycker det föreslår att livshotande omständigheter inte är bara sådana undantag i lagen, men jag tror inte att det är etablerat i Canon vad de undantag är.
